Our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Lee Gologergen. With his family's permission, we will still have open gym tonight.

There will be no open gym tonight. There is too much water dripping from the ceiling. I will update tomorrow afternoon after I check the gym around 5:00 PM.

Championship Bracket For Our Division. Our first game is 8:00 A.M. tomorrow.

Basketball Camp Update
Game 9
Chugiak (4A Varsity) 35
Savoonga 50
Beating a 4A varsity team was definitely the highlight of the camp for me. Tomorrow morning starts the single elimination tournament. We are going in at 7-2...probably a four seed.

Basketball Camp Update Game 7 Wasilla (4A JV) 55 Savoonga 59 Game 8 North Pole (4A JV) 45 Savoonga 70 I was very proud of the boys' play in the Wasilla game. They started the game down 12-0 and really never played well the entire game, but fought hard and won by four points against a very good team. Everything was clicking in the North Pole game. They played very well against a 4A Junior Varsity team. Other teams, coaches, and event organizers are noticing and commenting on how well the boys play. They are really making a name for themselves and the city of Savoonga. You should be proud of how well they are representing the village. We play our final game tonight and the single elimination tournament starts tomorrow morning.

Basketball Camp Update Tonight we played the Two Minute Double Elimination Tournament. The tournament has no divisions or levels. A small school team could play a big school team, but anything can happen since the game is only two minutes long. Game 1: We beat Valdez (3A JV) 6-0 in the first game. Game 2: We lost to Mt. Edgecumbe (3A Varsity) 6-1. Game 3: We beat Kenai (3A JV) 2-0. Game 4: We beat Soldotna (4A JV) 3-0. Game 5: We lost to Hutchinson (3A Varsity) 2-0 on a last second missed three pointer. It was a fun, tough tournament. We lasted longer than any other 1A team.

Basketball Camp Update Game 5 Petersburg (2A JV) 59 Savoonga 52 Game 6 Bethel (3A JV) 29 Savoonga 64 The Petersburg game was very frustrating because we should have won by 25 points. At the end of the first quarter, we were ahead 25 to 14. They played an all around excellent game against Bethel. We need to work on our consistency as a team so that we play at a high level every game. Currently our record is four wins and two losses.

Basketball Camp Update Game 3 Sitka (Freshman 3A) 84 Savoonga 55 Game 4 Nuiqsut 73 Savoonga 118 We were leading Sitka by one point at the half, but had a very rough second half against a very good team. The natural speed and aggressiveness of our players really shone through in the game against Nuiqsut. We're learning and growing as a team.

Basketball Camp Update:
Game 1
Savoonga 44
Gambell 40
Game 2
Savoonga 57
Nikiski 53
The boys are playing hard and are full of confidence after beating a 3A team today.

The boys basketball team is attending the Alaska Basketball Camp in Palmer all this week. There are 63 teams from all over the state in attendance. This is a great opportunity for us to get a lot of game experience in a short amount of time, which is very difficult to do during the season.
This trip would not have been possible without funding given to us by Preston Rookok and the NSEDC. I also want to thank the IRA and Kawerak for their donations that have allowed the players to be able to buy things that they need and even have some fun while they are here.
We expect that this experience will make us a better team in December because we have this chance to build the discipline, commitment, and teamwork that will be required to make it to the state championships.

Parents of incoming Kindergarteners: This is a reminder to fill out the BSSD paperwork for your child to attend Kindergarten. Nuwi only has three completed applications as of today. When registering, you will need their birth certificate and an up-to-date immunization record. Thanks.

There will be school on Saturday, May 3, 2025 to make up for the Friday we closed for hand foot and mouth disease. This will be a 1:30 P.M. early out.

Reminder: There will be school on Saturday, April 19, 2025 to make up for one of the days that we shut down for Hand/Foot/Mouth disease. School will begin at the normal time and end at 1:30 P.M.

Kindergarten Registration is Coming Soon.

School will be closed April 3 and April 4 so that our custodial staff can do a deep clean of the school and so students can avoid contact with those infected/contagious with hand, foot, and mouth disease.
During this shutdown, there will be no open gym or other activities inside the school to allow for thorough cleaning. We recommend disinfecting your houses as well so that when school opens on Monday, kids are not carrying the virus back into the building.
If your child is symptomatic (visible sores or blisters or a high temperature) on Monday, PLEASE do not send them to school until they are asymptomatic. Have a great mini-vacation!

Registration for 'Meals to You' program is now open! Register by scanning the QR code. Sign-ups are available from April 1st to April 30th.
