School will be closed April 3 and April 4 so that our custodial staff can do a deep clean of the school and so students can avoid contact with those infected/contagious with hand, foot, and mouth disease. During this shutdown, there will be no open gym or other activities inside the school to allow for thorough cleaning. We recommend disinfecting your houses as well so that when school opens on Monday, kids are not carrying the virus back into the building. If your child is symptomatic (visible sores or blisters or a high temperature) on Monday, PLEASE do not send them to school until they are asymptomatic. Have a great mini-vacation!

I wanted the community to be aware that the phones at the school are not functioning. When people call, and we answer, we cannot hear anything. We are looking into getting them working again.

Please keep your children at home if they are showing signs of hand/foot/mouth disease. The symptoms of the illness are sores inside the child's mouth or blisters on their hands and feet, as well as a high fever. This is very contagious and passed on through physical contact, coughing, or sneezing. A child can also get it more than once. Thank you for helping keep our school and students safe.

There will be no open gym tonight. The floor is very wet from multiple leaks in the roof. I cannot send anyone up there to fix the leak until the wind stops and it is safe.

RSV is spreading through the school. For adults and older children, it is usually not serious; for infants and younger children, it can be a very serious illness. If your child is symptomatic, please keep him/her home and take them to the clinic. Here is a link about the symptoms, causes, and treatment of RSV, from Cedar-Sinai medical center. https://www.cedars-sinai.org/health-library/diseases-and-conditions---pediatrics/r/respiratory-syncytial-virus-rsv-in-children.html

The presentations will cover topics such as sexual safety and safe relationships. If you want your child to participate, there is nothing you need to do. Good morning, Savoonga. School will start at 10:30 A.M. this morning to give our maintenance crew enough time to move the snow drifts so everyone can get to the building, and in the building, safely. I will message again around 9:00 A.M. and let you know which door to use. Have a great day.
