The Alaska Migrant Education Program is conducting its annual study of the needs of families of migratory children and youth through the Migratory Parent/Guardian Survey. This survey can be completed online and will remain open through March 31, 2026. The results give the MEO information on the needs of migratory children statewide, and are often utilized by districts as one of many data elements to form the annual Title I-C needs assessment.

Please avoid the area near the east doors of the school. There is a piece of metal roofing coming loose. I can't send anyone up on the roof to fix it until the wind dies down and makes it safe to be up there.

After discussing the gym situation with an AEC member, I have decided to allow open gym for middle school and under tonight, as long as they are accompanied by an adult. The doors to the locker rooms will remain locked and the MPR/lobby will be off limits, so enter through the north doors. Thanks.

Last night was the third fight at open gym in the last nine days. Once again, for the safety of everyone, I am shutting down open gym. It will reopen on January 5, 2026. In addition to the fighting/safety issues, there has been damage done in several areas around the school and the school has been trashed and left uncleaned nearly every night since Christmas break started. This is unacceptable to me as the principal, and should be unacceptable to the community who use the facility for various special events and daily open gym. The New Year Event being run by the city in the gym will still happen.
The students emulate the poor behavior that they see from adults, so I cannot let the fighting, damage, and drug use be the "normal" that they witness when they come into the school. There are so many good people in this town, so I know we can do better.

It’s that time of year again! We’re checking in to see how our school leaders (our Principals) are doing and where we can improve. We really want BSSD to be a place where everyone feels supported, and we can’t do that without hearing from you.
Completing the survey should only take a few minutes. Here is a short guide on how to complete the survey.
📢 Staff: Please take the survey twice. Once from your perspective as a staff member and again as a parent/community member.
📢 Parents: Your insights are highly appreciated! Please take a few moments to share your thoughts through a separate survey focusing on your parental perspective.
📢 Students: Your voice matters! You'll have the opportunity to express your opinions by participating in the survey at school.
This is completely anonymous. We want your honest thoughts, so please feel free to be open with us. Click here to complete the survey. The survey will be open until January 9, 2026.
If you need assistance accessing the survey, don't hesitate to contact a school administrator at your site. Your perspectives play a significant role in our plans for improvement. Thank you for taking the time to provide your valuable insights!

We will have a 1.5 hour late start today. The blowing snow and high wind are creating near-zero visibility and high drifts. School will begin at 10:30 A.M. Breakfast will not be served.

It looks like hand, foot, and mouth disease is back. To ensure that we do not have a major outbreak in the school again this year, please keep your child home if they have sores around their mouth or on their hands/feet. Once the sores go away (typically 7-10 days), they can return to school if they are symptom-free (no new sores or fever) for 24 hours.
