On behalf of the staff of Hogarth Kingeekuk, Sr. Memorial School and Bering Strait School District, our condolences to the family of Sam Mokiyuk. With the permission of the family, there will be open gym following the funeral tonight.

📢Board Vacancy📢 The Bering Strait School District Board of Education declared a vacant board seat for the Gambell and Savoonga communities.

The Bering Strait School District is looking for candidates to fill the Savoonga-Gambell seat on the Regional School Board. If you are interested, please come to the school to pick up a "Declaration of Candidacy" form. That form must be returned to the school by 4:00 P.M. on November 18, 2024. Candidates will be discussed at the AEC meeting on November 19. Candidates must be a resident of Savoonga or Gambell and a registered voter.

Starting today, we will have two new discipline options: lunch detention and in-school suspension. Lunch detention will be for minor offenses and will take place during the student's lunch time in the ISS room (Room 120). ISS will be for more serious offenses and will be for the entire school day in Room 120. For both detention and ISS, students will be expected to work on classroom assignment and make-up work all day, except when they are eating or on a bathroom break. Adding detention and ISS will provide discipline options for the school administrators other than out-of-school suspension (OSS). OSS will still be an option for serious offenses or for failure to follow the rules while in ISS. Attached is a discipline matrix that will be used when determining consequences for misbehavior. The consequences listed are subject to change by the school administrators if the situation warrants it, but we will try to follow the matrix progression as much as possible. My hope is that these new discipline options help decrease occurrences of both minor and major misbehavior so every student can focus on being successful in the classroom. Reminder: Damen Bell-Holter will be holding basketball clinics in the school gym tomorrow (Friday, November 8). He will work with Grades 3-8 (Little Dribblers and MS) from 10:30 to 12:00, and with high school+ from 12:30 to 2:30.
